Virginia Extends Tony Elliott Though 2030 After Historic Season

Virginia head football coach Tony Elliott has agreed to a new contract extension keeping him with the program through the 2030 season, the university confirmed this week.

Elliott, who is heading into his fifth year leading the Cavaliers, capped the 2025 season with a historic run — posting the most wins in program history at 11, reaching the ACC Championship Game, and earning ACC Coach of the Year recognition.

The school did not release financial details of the new deal. His previous contract was set to expire in May 2028 and carried a base salary of $4.4 million for the 2025 season, before bonuses.

Athletics director Carla Williams expressed strong support for the extension, highlighting Elliott's alignment with the university's values and his commitment to developing players both on and off the field. Williams noted that Elliott's vision for building an elite program never faltered despite significant challenges along the way, and expressed excitement about the program's trajectory.

On the field, the Cavaliers went 7-1 in conference play in 2025, finishing atop the ACC regular-season standings outright — a first in school history. Virginia closed the year ranked 16th in the Associated Press poll, marking its best final AP ranking in three decades, since 1995.
